Add credit to customers’ Shopify accounts in whole conversion units, limited by their points balance.
For example, if 100 points equals USD 1, a customer with 250 points can redeem 100 points for USD 1 or 200 points for USD 2. The remaining points stay in their balance.
Create the reward
- In Rewards, choose Create reward.
- Choose Store credit.
- Enter a Reward title that explains the offer to customers.
- Under Conversion rate, enter the Points required and Store credit amount for one conversion unit.
- Optional: under Validity, enter how many days the issued credit remains valid. Leave it blank for no expiry.
- Choose whether Shopify should Notify customer when the credit is issued.
- Preview, create, then activate from Rewards.
All amounts use your Shopify store currency.
Choose a useful conversion unit
The unit controls the rate and redeemable increments. Smaller units give more flexibility; larger units simplify choices.
100 points for USD 1 and 500 points for USD 5 have the same rate, but customers redeem in 100-point or 500-point steps respectively.
Leftover points remain available.
Offer more than one Store credit reward
Keep multiple offers active for different rates, minimum points or expiry periods.
When activating an offer while another is active, choose:
- Keep all active; or
- Pause others and activate.
Use distinct titles. Editing an active offer does not pause others.
Customer notification and expiry
When Notify customer is selected, Shopify sends its store credit notification after the credit is issued. You can edit that email under Settings → Notifications → Customer notifications in Shopify Admin.
Validity starts at redemption. Shopify shows the exact expiry. Later edits do not change issued credit.
What customers and staff do
Customers choose an amount, confirm and wait for the result. Your rewards also records the credit.
In POS, staff choose the offer and amount. After confirmation, return to the cart and choose Apply store credit. Redemption does not apply credit automatically.
Unused credit expiry does not automatically restore points. Record a manual adjustment for exceptions.
Lifecycle and VIP options
New rewards start inactive. Edits preserve status. Deactivate before deleting. Issued rewards keep their terms.
Use Availability under Who can redeem to choose eligible customers. Select Use VIP tier conversion rates, then enter Points required and Store credit amount for each tier. Leave both blank for the standard rate.
