In Settings → Points expiry, enable expiry, choose a method and review its example. Save or Discard your changes.
Choose a method
- Date earned: a fixed number of months after earning.
- Calendar date: a recurring cutoff with a minimum validity choice.
- Earning periods: different deadlines by earning period.
- Last purchase: surviving points can extend when the customer places another order.
- Last points balance change: surviving points can extend after a nonzero points movement.
Change or turn off expiry
Switch methods without deleting the policy. Turning expiry off keeps settings but gives future independent credits no expiry.
Existing points keep their original policy. Inactivity-based points can still extend under that policy; fixed-date points cannot.
New purchase earnings, activity awards and manual additions use the policy. Restored points keep their original expiry.
What customers see
Rewards shows expiry amounts and dates in the customer’s Shopify date format. The policy timezone determines the cutoff.
Redemptions spend points by earliest expiry, with non-expiring points last. Later activity cannot rescue expired points.
Configure optional expiry reminders to notify subscribed customers before their nearest expiry.
